Sponsoroo is a program to encourage interest, education and awareness about kangaroos. It is SINCERELY hoped that people may come to know and understand kangaroos, really love and appreciate them and will ultimately want to help to protect them.

the superb kangaroo

Through Sponsoroo, people can come to know a Red or Eastern Grey kangaroo of their choice, through photos and correspondence.

UPDATES, as of  Saturday, 19th April 2008

Last time I updated I had to tell you the incredibly sad news about the deaths of Dotty and Roobecca. That's Dotty in the above photo, soon after she came to me in December 2000 weighing 1200gm xx. Roobecca is the beautiful girl in the Sponsoroo logo at the top of this page, she is also the watermark on the other website pages and the Certificate of Sponsorship xx.

This too is a photo of Roobecca - as you can see, when she was younger she loved a cuddle!

In the logo photo of Roobecca, by the way, the position that she is sitting in, is the one a female kangaroo takes when she gives birth. While she is sitting, balanced like so, the joey makes its way from the cloaca, using its little tiny hands, up through the mother’s fur and into the pouch, where it latches on to one of 4 teats. At that stage it is only about 2cm long! It is an amazing feat of nature.

Roopa, Roobecca's daughter and Chiku, Dotty's son are now growing into beautiful young kangas and have developed friendships with Rocky, Shilo, Mondi and Elliot who are other little kangaroos still needing milk. Because it is still so dry from the drought, a number of adult kangaroos, some with joeys in the pouch, are coming to the house area for extra feed - hay and other treats. That creates the ideal situation for joeys in care because they can interact with the bigger kangas and go out to the bush with them when they are ready to do so.

I have reviewed the process of sponsoring kangaroos in Sponsoroo so those of you who have been involved will notice some changes. Please see the pages "Joining Sponsoroo" and "UK Sponsoroo".

The kangaroos featured on this Sponsoroo website are only a handful of the kangaroos being cared for here at "Narimba". New kangaroos are coming in all the time but I cannot feature them all here, sorry. If you would like to know more please let me know.

It always heartens me when I hear from other people who genuinely love and respect our kangaroos, thank you. They too realise that we must love, respect and look after our precious wildlife and their habitat. We must learn as much as we can about their needs and ways. We must treat each being as an individual as we would within our own species.

Each joey I raise, each kangaroo with whom I interact teaches me so much about their own kind and their environment. I realise how blessed I am to have this opportunity. They are precious treasures and I so wish that others would treat them as such.

All the paperwork for Sponsoroo is done by me, here in Australia. Please factor that into your time for postage, especially when the Sponsoroo is for a gift. For instance, from here to UK and Europe the post takes about 5 to 7 days, to USA 6 to 10 days . Many thanks.

Thank you to everyone for their continuing support and sponsorship or donations, it is very much appreciated.

Please continue to visit this spot for further updates.

Cheers, Susie.
