"NARIMBA"
"Narimba" is a property, a piece of paradise, in NSW which we bought in 1998. We settled here because of its location, its suitability for Red and Grey kangaroos, the wetland area and potential for conservation. It has now become a refuge for kangaroos. I would love to hear from others whose property is also a refuge/sanctuary for kangaroos (and other native fauna), please.
We are wanting to establish about half the property as habitat for native biodiversity which is to be protected for perpetuity. The other half is set aside for growing organic vegetables and grain crops.
Some proceeds from Sponsoroo, will contribute to the establishment and management of "Narimba’s" conservation area, which is about 400 hectares.
OUR REASONS FOR THE CONSERVATION AREA:
There is a great need to save our native Australian species from extinction. Our urban and rural developments and farming practices, combined with lack of thought, knowledge and understanding have caused so many species to die out or to have to change their preferred locations. A lot of their habitat has now gone or has been severely reduced and has been replaced by introduced species, which has had a detrimental effect.
It is now so important to set aside areas for restoration and conservation of our native species. The purpose of this project on "Narimba", is to do just that, to designate country for our native species to have a safe and protected refuge. Too many of the marsupials and other mammals who used to live in this area have become extinct.
It is so important that more people learn to value and care about our native flora and fauna.
Also that they become aware and gain an understanding of the processes of ecosystems, that nature works as a whole and is not isolated or fragmented into units. Humans need to realise the importance of their interrelationship with nature, that they are not and cannot exist as an isolated entity. They need to care for and protect all the other species and not just their own.
This project on "Narimba" will provide the opportunity, to learn more about these things.
OBJECTIVES:
- To have a working example of an enterprise where farming and conservation of native species are integrated to form a healthy and productive environment.
- To provide a sanctuary for the fauna and flora who are native to this area.
- Re-establishment and nurturing of species who were here before white settlement and development.
- Protection and conservation of native species who are already here, and to encourage healthy populations of them.
- Provide the opportunity for education, to learn more about our native species and their significant importance in our environment, behaviour and habits of native fauna, and interdependence of the biodiversity within ecological communities.
- To create healthy soils throughout the property and farm sustainably without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides and artificial fertilisers.
- To stress the importance of, and encourage other landholders and interested bodies to, also create areas of protection for native species, so we can link corridors, for our fellow species to survive, before we have lost our Native Australia.
POLICIES:
- To continue to farm some areas on "Narimba". But once an area has been designated as habitat for native biodiversity, farming will cease to be practised there. Farming will not interfere with the conservation areas. The native flora and fauna will remain protected for perpetuity.

No GE crops will be grown.
- No killing of native fauna, they are completely protected. They will be undisturbed as much as possible.
- No killing for scientific research, no killing for population control.
- If an animal is injured beyond treatment and rehabilitation, euthanasia will be accepted.
- No interfering, implanting, harming or causing stress to fauna for scientific or any other purposes.
- Native fauna are not to be used as pets or sold for any other purpose. They are not viewed as a "renewable resource".
